Sunderland have reportedly accepted Middlesbrough’s offer for Paddy McNair but Brighton are still keen on the midfielder.
The Seagulls have already had two bids rejected for the 23-year-old Northern Ireland international, the more recent of which was around the £3.5million mark, with the Black Cats making it clear they value the midfielder significantly higher.
An unnamed London club also reportedly had an offer of £3.75m turned down by the Wearsiders, while Boro have now entered the fray with some significant success.
Reports over the weekend claimed Middlesbrough had bid in excess of £5m for McNair – and the Sunderland Echo has now revealed that the club have accepted it.
Brighton will now have to match Boro’s offer if they want to sign the former Manchester United starlet and they would hold the upper hand in securing his signature given that they have Premier League football on offer at the Amex Stadium, which is where McNair recently said he was keen to be playing again.
